The annual Christmas Day Lunch was held on campus for all students and community members who had nowhere else to be on the day.
The preparation and collection of food items and decoration was organised by Donna Cahill in the lead up to the even and on Christmas Eve (24th December 2016) myself and a small group of volunteers come into the Student guild building and began to prepare the food items for the event the following day.
The day began with a pancake breakfast for those coming in. Most guests did not arrive until 11:00am onwards and in total 18-20 people came in and out of the event over the day. Lunch was served at 12:00pm and desert was served shortly after. At the end of the day take away containers were provided for any guest who would like to take any of the left overs home.
The day proceeded without any incidents, every aspect of the day was well organised and presented to the best ability of those involved. Throughout the day many of the guests made comments about how great everything was and how much they were enjoying themselves. Also putting themselves forward to volunteer with the next Christmas event that is held. Many of the guest decided to hang around after the event and enjoyed each other’s company as they had bonded well over the day. This event is important to those who for whatever reason cannot be with their own families on the day, I believe this event will only grow in the future.
