Did you know that Australia is one of the highest producers of waste per head of population in the world?
(Australia State of the Environment Committee, 2001).
In January of this year, our student Guild volunteers put their heads together and came up with the idea of the 'PreLOVE'd Shack;' a student thrift shop where high quality donations can be sold to students at student-approved prices. In a few weeks, we moved the entire Textbook Hub to make way for our new thrifty venture and the store sa...
I am far from the most crafty person in the world, however, despite this I attended the crystal necklace DIY workshop run by USC Student Guild.
To my surprise, I actually understood Emily’s instructions and was she was very patient with my lack of ability do anything craft related. Emily was even kind enough to make sure I got the only amethyst crystal left which was awesome. I did end up with something that didn’t quite resemble the professional efforts of Emily and even looked weirder than some...
Our very first Netflix and Pizza night was a huge hit! We knew there’d be plenty of documentary lovers out there, or pizza lovers, or both, so it was an absolute pleasure to organise and host the start of a doco club!
We themed our first doco around the upcoming International Women’s Day and screened the beautiful Girl Rising. This is a collection of empowering stories from across the global highlighting the boldness and bravery some girls embark on the better their lives and the lives of others!...
Over the Christmas Holidays a small dedicated team of volunteers spent numerous hours revamping our locker banks. The rusty, old lockers welcomed a new rust-proof paint job, brightly coloured doors and all new keys and padlocks.
The lockers were replaced back on campus in seven different locations before Week 1 and since then we have seen a huge number hired for either one or two semesters.
What a stunning day we had up in the beautiful town of Eumundi.
Our Oweek trip was a sell-out seeing 27 people board our bus of fun at 8am from campus and we headed up the Bruce to the Sunshine Coast’s Pride festival which was nestled into one of Australia’s best markets: Eumundi Markets.
We strolled the shadowy lanes of the markets , enjoyed the colourful entertainment at the Pride stage, ate delicious foods and chillaxed at the local pubs.
We had the pleasure of enjoying the vibes and quality cof...
At O-Week this semester, we thought we'd put some of our brightest USC minds to the test with a Trivia Night Event. We had over 150 students band together into teams to compete for the ultimate prize; a voucher to the Helm and to be crowned the most ‘Triv-iffic’ minds on campus. After a long night of pizza and brain-racking, the ‘Winners Grinners’ team came out on top and each team member went home with their victory-vouchers in hand (and a Winning Grin, of course).
